What a wonderful celebration Children’s Week is!  It reminds us of the joy and exuberance of our little ones, and of our serious concern for their rights and wellbeing.

 

It is a responsibility we share: as parents and grandparents; as families, neighbourhoods, and communities; as a nation.  Our children are truly our most precious gift, and we owe them the best we have to give. In healthcare and education, and in the more intimate workings of nurture and sacrifice, we exercise a profound responsibility for their lives and futures.

 

I am honoured to be patron of the Children’s Week Council of Australia, and to observe all that it represents about our caring and cohesive society.
